"Weekend Guests Reach 1,000 a Day"
"Grateful for Visitors from Afar Saying It's Delicious"
Amid ongoing controversies over overcharging at spring festivals and traditional markets, YouTuber Tteokbokki Queen revisited Gyeongdong Market in Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul, known as a place where you can buy an enormous amount of sundae for just 10,000 won, after a month.
On the 3rd, Tteokbokki Queen uploaded a video showing her return to Hwanghaedo Sundae House after a month. The owner of the sundae shop jokingly told Tteokbokki Queen, who said, "People threatened to kill me because I spread the word about this secret restaurant and now even I can't buy it," that it was "a very grateful thing."
The owner said, "Usually, we open the shop at 4:30 a.m., but by around 9:30 a.m., people start lining up, and by 10:30 a.m., customers flood in." He added, "On weekends, people line up from 6 a.m., and there are about 1,000 customers on weekends alone." He also mentioned, "We usually close at 7 p.m., but we work late into the night because of the workload."
He continued, "These days, I work without any days off. We limit sundae purchases to 1 kg per person," and said that as the popularity grew, many broadcasting stations have also visited. The owner expressed gratitude, saying, "Many people come from far away to a place that’s nothing special, and they say it’s delicious."
Meanwhile, four weeks ago, Tteokbokki Queen posted a video titled "Same price as Gwangjang Market, but a different level of quantity." Previously, she exposed a trick called "menu swapping," saying, "At Gwangjang Market, I ordered a 6,000 won single sundae, but the owner arbitrarily upgraded it to a 10,000 won assorted sundae."
