Victim Suffers Hearing Loss... Needs Hearing Aid
50s Man Helping Victim Also Experiences Aftereffects
On the 3rd, JTBC's 'Sageon Banjang' covered a case where a man indiscriminately assaulted a convenience store part-timer, labeling her a 'feminist' simply because her hair was short. On the broadcast, the victim, Ms. A, said, "The defendant's side did propose a settlement, saying, 'If you show leniency and get a suspended sentence, I will work hard and pay you 200,000 won per month.'"
Regarding this, Ms. A stated, "I think that someone who claims to have no money but hires a lawyer from a law firm and demands a settlement like this is not offering a sincere apology."
Mr. C, a man in his 50s who suffered fractures to his shoulder, forehead, and nose and underwent suturing surgery for tears on his ear, neck, and eye areas while trying to stop Mr. B's assault, is also suffering from aftereffects. It is known that he lost his job and is experiencing financial hardship. Accordingly, on the 29th of last month, a petition was submitted to the Changwon District Court Jeonju Branch, appealing for severe punishment of the male defendant, Mr. B.
On November 4th last year, around 12:15 a.m., Ms. A was indiscriminately assaulted by a man in his 20s, Mr. B, at a convenience store in Hadae-dong, Jinju City. At the time of the crime, Mr. B reportedly said, "Since the woman has short hair, she must be a feminist. Feminists need to be beaten a little."
Ms. A has suffered hearing loss from this incident and must use a hearing aid. On the 29th of last month, Ms. A posted on X, "Due to the perpetrator's assault, my left ear was diagnosed with auditory nerve damage and sensorineural hearing loss. There is no separate treatment for the already lost hearing, so it remains a permanent injury, and wearing a hearing aid is the only option."
The prosecution demanded a five-year prison sentence, stating that the victim's suffering continues due to Mr. B's abnormal crime. The first trial verdict for this case is scheduled to be held on the 9th at the Jinju Branch of the Changwon District Court.
