[Polpol News] President Yoon and Ruling Party Approval Ratings Rise Together... Slight Weakening of Regime Judgment Theory

Yoon's Approval Rating Rises 2 Percentage Points to 38% Over Two Weeks
People Power Party Support at 39%, Democratic Party at 29%

A public opinion poll released on the 4th showed that support ratings for President Yoon Seok-yeol and the People Power Party have both risen ahead of the general election.


According to the National Barometer Survey (NBS) conducted from the 1st to the 3rd (a telephone interview survey using 100% mobile phones targeting 1,004 men and women aged 18 and over nationwide), released by Embrain Public, K-Stat Research, Korea Research, and Hankook Research, President Yoon's approval rating rose by 2 percentage points from two weeks ago to 38%. Negative evaluations fell by 1 percentage point to 55%.


Regarding party support, the People Power Party increased by 5 percentage points to 39%, while the Democratic Party remained the same at 29%. The Reform New Party was at 2%, and the New Future Party and Green Justice Party were each at 1%.

When asked who they would vote for as their district representative, support for both the People Power Party and the Democratic Party increased. The People Power Party rose by 7 percentage points to 39%, and the Democratic Party rose by 5 percentage points to 37%. The non-affiliated group, which answered none/don't know/no response, decreased by 8 percentage points to 17%.


Regarding the proportional representation election, support for the People Power Party’s satellite party, People’s Future, increased by 4 percentage points to 31%, and the Innovation Party also rose by 4 percentage points to 23%. The Democratic Party’s satellite party, the Democratic Union, decreased by 1 percentage point to 15%.


In this general election, 46% of respondents agreed with the “government support theory,” which advocates empowering the ruling party to support the government, while 47% agreed with the “government judgment theory,” which supports empowering the opposition party to check the government. The “government support theory” rose by 2 percentage points compared to the previous survey, while the “government judgment theory” fell by 2 percentage points.


Fifty-three percent of respondents expected the Democratic Party to become the largest party, while 30% said the People Power Party would become the largest party.
