Dialogue with Youth on ODA
Sharing Policy Recommendations
Kim Yunsang, Vice Minister of Strategy and Finance, stated on the 4th, "We will continue to expand the scale of Official Development Assistance (ODA) funding to fulfill our role befitting the national status as a global pivotal country."
At a meeting with young people held at the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) on the same day, Vice Minister Kim said, "We have increased the ODA budget this year by the largest margin ever to secure national interests." This year's ODA budget is 6.3 trillion won, a 39.5% increase compared to last year's 4.5 trillion won.
Vice Minister Kim emphasized that alongside this quantitative expansion, efforts will be made to enhance the quality of projects so that the public can tangibly feel the results. To this end, he added that efforts will be made to link ODA projects with the overseas expansion of Korean companies and young people.
He also mentioned plans to continue expanding the ODA budget related to youth overseas advancement next year to strengthen the global capabilities and experience accumulation of Korean youth.
On the same day, Vice Minister Kim held a session to listen to and share opinions on the experiences of young people who directly participated in ODA projects on-site. The meeting was attended by nine individuals including KOICA overseas volunteer groups and Youth Supporters of the Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF), as well as the Ministry of Strategy and Finance's 2030 advisory group and youth aides.
The young participants introduced their experiences of employment and entrepreneurship in domestic and international companies based on their involvement with the World Friends Korea (WFK) volunteer group and international organization youth internships. They suggested that to foster talent, support linking overseas experience to employment and the expansion of university credit recognition systems need to be further enhanced.
