Promotion of guidance and inspection focused on mandatory recycling waste treatment sites, and separated disposal publicity
Contribution to achieving carbon neutrality through the establishment of a recycling waste discharge system
Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) is promoting guidance and inspections focused on multi-family housing and workplaces that process recyclables independently, ahead of the planned enforcement of the "Prohibition of Direct Landfilling in the Metropolitan Area" scheduled for 2026.
According to relevant laws, owners of buildings with a total floor area of 1,000㎡ or more per floor, or businesses that discharge an average of 300kg or more of waste per day, or generate 5 tons or more of waste due to a series of construction works, are classified as obligated businesses required to manage recyclable waste separation and collection on their own.
The inspection targets include approximately 380 multi-family housing units and workplaces within the district. The district office plans to operate waste resource managers in consultation with Seoul City to conduct inspections and provide guidance on recyclable waste separation and collection, aiming to reduce household waste and improve resource recycling efficiency to achieve carbon neutrality.
Additionally, five areas with concentrated large waste discharge will be selected for focused management, and dedicated plastic film bags will be supplied to workplaces with high amounts of mixed plastic film waste. Furthermore, for small multi-family housing such as villas without management offices, active promotion of proper waste separation and disposal will be conducted to establish a recyclable waste discharge system.
Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, stated, "We plan to implement various projects to activate resource recycling and establish a discharge system to realize a carbon-neutral city," and urged residents to actively practice carbon neutrality in their daily lives.
