Woori DS "Developing Products Applied to Hyundai Rotem's New Armored Vehicle"

Woori Technology announced on the 4th that its wholly-owned subsidiary Woori DS is developing wheels and run-flats for Hyundai Rotem's new wheeled armored vehicle. Woori DS exclusively supplies wheels and run-flats for armored vehicles to Hyundai Rotem, and additional orders are expected once exports of the new armored vehicles to overseas markets begin in earnest.

The new wheeled armored vehicle is a next-generation large armored vehicle developed by Hyundai Rotem to target the global market. Its size and weight have been enhanced. The vehicle is characterized by maximized protection performance. Equipped with a high-performance engine, it offers excellent mobility, amphibious propulsion capability, and differentiated features such as an unmanned turret, enabling various operations in ground warfare.

When the next-generation armored vehicles enter mass production, Woori DS plans to supply new wheels and run-flats to Hyundai Rotem. Woori DS is designing new high-load wheels and run-flats with superior performance compared to existing models to be applied to the new armored vehicles, aiming to complete development within this year.

Woori DS currently holds exclusive supply rights for wheels and run-flats applied to Hyundai Rotem's armored vehicles. Applying run-flats allows the vehicle to maintain mobility and survivability even if the tire air pressure decreases due to external impacts such as being hit. Woori DS has succeeded in establishing a production system with its proprietary technology.

A Woori DS official stated, “Based on our unique technology related to run-flats for armored vehicles, we are developing new products to be applied to Hyundai Rotem’s new armored vehicles, which are our key customer. Since the customer is reviewing various measures to export the new armored vehicles following large-scale tank deliveries to Poland, we expect Woori DS’s sales of wheels and run-flats to expand in the future.”

He added, “The new armored vehicles possess excellent performance and are reportedly attracting significant interest from countries near Ukraine. If exports expand to Eastern European countries such as Hungary and Bulgaria, starting with Poland, additional sales growth will be possible.”
