Gangjin-gun Daegu-myeon, Canola Flowers in Full Bloom Create a Spectacular 'Yellow Wave'

Early Blooming Draws Attention with Variety Planted One Month Earlier Than Common Canola

Unexpected canola flowers created a spectacular scene around the Cheongja Kiln Site area in Daegu-myeon, Gangjin-gun, Jeollanam-do.

According to the county on the 4th, along National Road No. 23 connecting Gangjin-eup to Daegu-myeon and Maryang-myeon, canola planting areas have been established near the entrance of Gaudo Island and the Cheongja Museum. Among them, canola flowers are in full bloom along the road south of the Cheongja Museum, attracting passersby.

While typical canola flowers have only recently begun to bloom, the canola in Daegu-myeon is fully blossomed, creating a spectacle of deep yellow waves that amazes visitors.

An official from the county Agricultural Technology Center, which plants and manages the canola, said, “To induce early blooming of canola, we purchased seeds called ‘Sandongchae,’ which are only distributed in Jeju Island, and planted them last fall. Compared to regular canola, they bloom about a month earlier.”

The canola flower fields in Daegu-myeon provide a visual attraction for tourists traveling along the national road connecting Gangjin-gun’s representative tourist spots such as Gaudo Island, the Cheongja Museum, and Maryang Fishing Port, and are expected to serve as excellent photo zones.

Meanwhile, the county plans to actively utilize the seeds produced in the canola complex by replanting them at tourist sites this fall to promote the region as a warm area in the southern provinces where spring arrives early.
