Daejeon Medical Center Operated by City-Affiliated Institution... "Strengthening Public Healthcare"

Securing Momentum for Project Advancement with GB Deregulation... Targeting Opening in the Second Half of 2029

Daejeon Medical Center Operated by City-Affiliated Institution... "Strengthening Public Healthcare" Perspective view of Daejeon Medical Center / Daejeon City

Daejeon City announced that, after conducting medical operation system services and various forums, it has decided to operate the Daejeon Medical Center directly through a city-funded institution.

The city made this decision to strengthen public healthcare functions, implement policy healthcare, and facilitate smooth communication with citizens in accordance with the purpose of establishing the medical center.

The city plans to set directions for individual tasks and establish a system for 12 sectors of the medical operation system (management, personnel, education, logistics, informatization, medical treatment, medical support, evaluation, research, publicity, events, and opening plans).

Additionally, the architectural design will be promoted through a two-stage design competition focusing on functionality and design superiority. The city will announce the design recruitment in April, proceed until August, and then estimate the total project cost after seven months of basic design.

The Daejeon Medical Center construction project, carried out as part of the Dong-gu Seonryang District urban development project, secured momentum for the project as 202,187㎡ of the total 203,115㎡ project area’s greenbelt was lifted in February.

The Daejeon Medical Center project, with a scale of 319 beds and a budget of 175.9 billion KRW, is expected to see an increase in total project costs due to rising prices and material costs, and the opening is likely to be delayed to the second half of 2029 from the original schedule.

Lee Jang-woo, Mayor of Daejeon, stated, “As the medical strike situation prolongs, the need to strengthen public healthcare is increasing,” and added, “We will do our best to establish a regionally complete medical system so that citizens can receive medical services in a timely manner.”
