Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that it will provide emergency and gap childcare services on weekends and nights, allowing guardians who need to work on weekends to safely leave their children in care.
The district newly designated Yesnim Daycare Center and Hana Furni Singil Daycare Center as weekend daycare and 365-day daycare centers, respectively. This aims to fill the childcare gap for families who need care on weekends, late evenings, or 24-hour care, enabling them to balance work and parenting.
This new daycare designation is carried out in collaboration with Hana Financial Group and Hana Financial Public Welfare Foundation, and will operate for five years from March this year to February 2029.
The ‘Weekend Daycare Center’ provides care from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays, while the ‘365-day Daycare Center’ offers emergency childcare 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, including nights and holidays. It is similar to hourly childcare in that it can be used for the amount of time needed at home.
The district has expanded gap and emergency childcare services to meet the changing childcare environment and care demands, reflecting the diverse and evolving working patterns of guardians. Through this, it is expected to greatly assist self-employed individuals, shift workers, and families with frequent weekend work who need to work late hours.
Any infant or toddler residing in Seoul can use the service. Guardians can make reservations for desired times through the ‘Seoul Childcare Portal Service’ website or inquire by phone. The usage fee is 3,000 KRW per hour.
In particular, to provide meticulous childcare, the district has significantly improved the previous ratio of one teacher caring for five children during holiday care. Now, one teacher will care for two children in the 0-year-old class and three children in the 1-2 year-old class.
Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, said, “We hope that families raising children who work on weekends or holidays, as well as dual-income couples, can worry less and comfortably use the weekend and 365-day daycare centers.” He added, “We will actively respond to changing childcare demands and create a happy Yeongdeungpo for moms and dads raising children through various gap childcare policies.”
