On the 3rd, Jin Gyo-hoon, the mayor of Gangseo-gu, Seoul, held a tree planting event with residents at Magok Eoullim Park to celebrate the 79th Arbor Day.
About 150 people participated in the event, including children from Magok 8 Open Forest Daycare Center, disability organizations, and local residents.
Mayor Jin and the participants planted 850 trees of three species recommended by Seoul City for fine dust reduction: Korean ash, Chinese fringe tree, and hydrangea.
Each person hung a name tag on the tree they planted, inscribed with their wishes and names.
Mayor Jin Gyo-hoon said, “One of the most effective ways to respond to climate change, such as the rise in the Earth's average annual temperature and fine dust, is planting trees,” adding, “I hope this Arbor Day serves as a time to reflect on the importance of trees in the climate crisis and the meaning of Arbor Day.”
