According to the bereaved family, he passed away that morning after battling illness following gallbladder cancer surgery.

Born in 1954 in Busan, he debuted as a first-generation child actor playing a goblin in KBS’s 1966 ‘Children’s Theater - The Hunchbacked Old Man.’ After graduating from Dongguk University with a degree in Theater and Film, he worked as a stage actor, took a hiatus, and resumed acting in 1995 with the SBS sitcom ‘LA Arirang.’

He later appeared in numerous hit dramas such as ‘Jumong’ (2006), ‘Hit’ (2007), ‘The Legend’ (2007), ‘Sky Castle’ (2018), ‘Stove League’ (2019), and ‘Mr. Queen’ (2020), gaining recognition from the public.

In particular, he gained great popularity for his role as Lee Gwi-hyun, the father of the protagonist Lee Young-ae (played by Kim Hyun-sook), in tvN’s drama ‘Makdwaemeok-eun Young-ae-ssi,’ which aired for a total of seventeen seasons from 2007 to 2019. He was loved by the public for his characteristic kind smile, warm atmosphere, and profound acting skills.

Last year, he appeared on MBN’s ‘Dongchimi’ and confessed, “I have had liver cancer four times,” adding, “During the filming of the drama ‘Jumong,’ a liver cancer tumor over 5 cm was discovered, and they urged me to have surgery quickly, but I endured it because of the drama filming.”

The funeral hall is set up at Seoul Red Cross Hospital Funeral Hall. The funeral procession will be held at 6 a.m. on the 5th. The burial site is Seoul Municipal Crematorium.
