Lee Jae-myung Mentions COVID Disaster Relief Fund, Saying "That's Exactly Economic Policy, You Pathetic People"

Lee Campaigns in Heavy Rain in Changwon, Gyeongnam... Supports Heo Seong-moo
"When Money Circulation Stops and Recession Hits, Local Currency Must Be Given"

Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, mentioned the necessity of the 'Livelihood Recovery Support Fund,' which the Democratic Party proposed as a pledge for the 22nd general election, saying, "During the difficult times of COVID-19 when it was hard to make a living, we gave less than 1 million won per household in local currency, so for about six months, people could manage to get by."

On the afternoon of the 3rd, Lee visited Seongsan District in Changwon City, Gyeongnam Province, and said, "Money is said to be money only when it circulates, but the circulation of money in South Korea has stopped now," adding, "Residents' pockets are empty, and even if they want to eat or survive, there is no money." He continued, "At times like this, isn't it the government's economic policy to step in and make money circulate? The economy will revive only if consumption increases. That is exactly economic policy, you pathetic people," emphasizing his point.

He criticized the economic policy of the Yoon Seok-yeol administration as a 'tax cut for the rich,' stating, "With the power they have, they are cutting taxes for the wealthy and reducing support budgets for our common people." He added, "In difficult economic times, cutting taxes for the ultra-rich and ultra-wealthy who are hoarding money is wrong," and said, "We need to show that if the country’s finances are managed this way, they might be ousted."

On the same day, Lee referred to security policy with economic logic, saying, "Peace is food." He said, "If we show strength and clash head-on, will foreign investors remain in this country?" and "If tensions escalate, the economy worsens, and investments decrease." He urged, "Let's return to a peaceful country," and claimed, "Peace has been pursued by democratic administrations, and the threat of war has arisen every time conservative administrations have been in power."

Furthermore, he encouraged voter participation by saying, "Let's vote early with the thought that the fate of South Korea depends on this," and expressed support for the Democratic Party, which is candidate number '1.' He also said, "Even if you vote for the People Power Party, don't give up and encourage others to participate," adding, "If you tell them to go and vote like this, surely they won't vote for the People Power Party."
