The business agreement was attended by County Governor Shim Deok-seop, Jeonbuk Agricultural Research and Extension Services Director Choi Jun-yeol, Vegetable and Fruit Research Institute Director Seo Kyung-won, and researchers from the Watermelon Testing Center.

Through this business agreement, the county expects momentum in building a smart farm complex suitable for the region with advice and cooperation from the provincial agricultural research institute, which has a high understanding of agricultural sites and smart farms.

Since 2022, the provincial agricultural research institute has been operating a big data center within the Gimje Smart Farm Innovation Valley, playing a cornerstone role in the technical field to support the government’s smart farm expansion policy.

Previously, the county secured a local extinction response fund in the Panjeong-ri area of Seongsong-myeon and is currently constructing a smart farm complex and facilities for young startup farmers worth 16.5 billion KRW.

In particular, the goal is to lower the existing barriers to entry for smart farms so that any young farmer with passion and determination can challenge and succeed in smart farming.

Governor Shim Deok-seop said, “We will jointly discover the Gochang-type smart farm model currently being promoted through this business agreement,” and added, “We will strive to help local young people interested in smart farms and those who want to return to farming or rural life in Gochang to start their first farming.”
