On the 3rd, GS Engineering & Construction announced that it had won the contract for the sulfur recovery facility construction of the 'Fadhili Gas Increment Program Package 2' ordered by Saudi Aramco, the Saudi state-owned oil company.
The contract signing ceremony was held the previous day in AlKhobar, Saudi Arabia, attended by CEO Heo Yoonhong and officials from Saudi Aramco. The contract amount is 1.22 billion USD (approximately 1.6 trillion KRW), and the construction period is about 41 months.
The Fadhili Gas Increment Program is a project to expand the capacity of the existing Fadhili gas plant operating in the Fadhili oilfield industrial complex, located about 80 km from Jubail city in eastern Saudi Arabia.

GS Engineering & Construction will build three sulfur recovery facilities with a capacity to recover 800 tons of sulfur per day and will carry out the entire project scope including design, procurement, construction, and commissioning support.
The sulfur recovery facility is an advanced system that captures and recycles sulfur generated during the gas refining process. It captures sulfur, a toxic substance contained in gas produced from oilfields, enhancing the added value of the final products and creating economic value by utilizing high-purity sulfur. It is an eco-friendly facility that reduces environmental pollution by managing the toxic sulfur.
GS Engineering & Construction has focused on domestic plant projects in recent years due to a sharp decline in overseas plant project orders caused by falling oil prices and volatility in the energy market. With oil prices recovering and demand for petrochemical products increasing after COVID-19, new orders have risen, and this contract marks the official resumption of overseas plant projects.
A GS Engineering & Construction official said, "Based on over 50 years of diverse construction capabilities accumulated domestically and internationally and extensive experience in overseas EPC plant projects, we will lead the successful execution of this project," adding, "We will strive to strengthen the foundation of the plant business, which has been a key pillar of GS Engineering & Construction’s long-standing business portfolio."
