Yangcheon-gu Supports Qualification Acquisition Including Electrician Certification to Help Middle-Aged Reemployment

Operation of Free Job Training Courses for Middle-Aged Employment Connection Including Electrician, General Security Guard, and Caregiver Training... All-in-One Service from Customized Specialized Job Training to Employment Counseling and Job Placement

Yangcheon-gu Supports Qualification Acquisition Including Electrician Certification to Help Middle-Aged Reemployment Caregiver Training Program

Yangcheon-gu (District Mayor Lee Gi-jae) announced that it is recruiting participants for a free vocational training program that provides an all-in-one service from customized job lectures in various fields such as general security guard and electrician technician to employment linkage for middle-aged and older adults who wish to remain active in economic activities even after retirement.

The middle-aged and older adult employment-linked vocational training is a project that promotes employment activation and regional economic development by connecting jobs to middle-aged and older adults who have completed job training at vocational training institutions (organizations) that have signed business agreements with the district. Since 2012, a total of about 450 people have successfully found jobs through this project.

This year’s programs include three courses: electrician technician, general security guard, and caregiver training, all of which are free of charge. First, the newly introduced “Electrician Technician Training Course” this year offers a total of 34 sessions and 150 hours of training, from basic electrical theory to electrician technician practice, targeting 18 middle-aged and older adults who wish to re-enter the electrical field.

The training period runs from May 13 to August 9 and is hosted by the Capital Vocational School. Especially since individuals preparing to obtain an electrician technician license usually have to bear a high tuition fee of up to 1.3 million KRW, this free electrician technician training course prepared by the district is expected to significantly alleviate the economic burden of middle-aged and older adults seeking jobs in related fields.

The “General Security Guard New Employee Training Course,” which receives the highest response from students, will be held three times targeting 100 middle-aged and older adults who wish to work in the security industry: 40 in May, 30 in August, and 30 in October. According to the current “Security Guards Act,” security guards must complete mandatory training to work as security personnel, so the district aims to support both training completion and employment in a one-stop manner through this free education. The training is hosted by the specialized institution, the Seoul Branch of the Korea Security Association, and covers 10 legally required subjects over three days (24 hours). Currently, 40 students are being recruited for the May training (May 23?25).

In response to the increasing elderly population, the “Caregiver Training Course” is operated in two tracks: a daytime class from April 15 to June 21 and a nighttime class from April 15 to July 10, targeting 15 middle-aged and older adults.

The curriculum consists of four subjects: caregiving, human rights, aging, and health promotion. The organizing institution, Daol Caregiver Training Center, will provide customized special lectures (a total of 320 hours) necessary for obtaining certification, including theory, practice, and field training.

The middle-aged and older adult employment-linked program is open to any district resident aged 40 or older who wishes to find employment. Graduates who complete the training courses will be employed in private sector jobs through the institution’s own employment center and the Yangcheon-gu Job Plus Center. For detailed information such as recruitment periods and application methods for each program, please refer to the district office website’s announcements or contact the district office’s Job Economy Division.

Lee Gi-jae, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, said, “I hope this project, which provides one-stop support from free job training to job linkage, will be helpful to middle-aged and older residents who are struggling to prepare for re-employment.” He added, “We will continue to develop customized job policies tailored to each generation, including middle-aged adults, youth, and seniors, to create a Yangcheon where anyone who wants to work can do so freely.”
