The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety imposed a fine of 134.4 million KRW on the manufacturer of Daewon Pharmaceutical's chewable antidiarrheal Potagel, which faced quality controversies last year.
According to the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety on the 2nd, a decision was made on the 1st to suspend the manufacturing operations of Daewon Pharmaceutical's Potagel, which was judged to be of poor quality due to microorganisms exceeding the limit, for 3 months and 15 days. However, instead of an actual suspension of manufacturing operations, a fine of about 100 million KRW was imposed as a substitute.
Potagel is a medicine used to relieve adult stomach and duodenal pain, as well as acute and chronic diarrhea, and acute diarrhea in children over 24 months old. In November last year, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety ordered a recall of Potagel products with the manufacturing number '23084' due to concerns over quality nonconformity caused by exceeding the microorganism limit. Daewon Pharmaceutical also initiated a voluntary recall of 30 types of products with manufacturing numbers produced around the same time as the affected batch.
