Cocaine Stashes Found Occasionally
"Please Report Suspicious Packages"
Large piles of cocaine have been repeatedly washed ashore on beaches in Sydney, Australia, causing concern. Police have urged people not to open any packages found on the beach and to report them immediately. On the 1st (local time), British broadcaster BBC and others reported that five packages believed to contain cocaine were recently washed up on a beach near Sydney. These packages were discovered by visitors to the beach. The total weight was 5 kg and the packages were seized by the police.
The police pointed out that these packages are part of illegal cocaine shipments that have been gradually washing ashore since December last year. Previously, on December 22 of last year, a package containing several bags of cocaine was found on a beach in northern Sydney. During the search at that time, the police seized more than 120 kg of cocaine. The value of this haul is estimated at 50 million Australian dollars (approximately 44.2 billion Korean won).
Since then, more than 10 small and large packages have been found. Police believe the drugs originated in South America and were likely transported to Australia via cargo ships.

The New South Wales (NSW) Police Department issued a statement saying, "As complaints continue, we urge the public to report any suspicious packages to the authorities."
Meanwhile, it has been revealed that for several years, drug smuggling involving large quantities of drugs imported from overseas has been thriving in Australia and New Zealand by dumping them into the sea and then retrieving them using location tracking systems such as GPS.
