'Kim Hwallan Ewha Student Sexual Bribery' Remarks... Ewha Womans University "Candidate Kim Junhyuk Must Withdraw"

Ewha Womans University issued an official statement and demanded the resignation of Kim Jun-hyeok, the Democratic Party of Korea candidate for Suwon Jeong, Gyeonggi Province, in response to his past remarks claiming that Kim Hwal-ran, the first president of Ewha Womans University, forced students to provide sexual favors to U.S. military officers.

On the 2nd, Ewha Womans University expressed deep regret over Kim's defamatory remarks against the university community, which were recently revealed through YouTube and media reports, stating, "Kim's remarks seriously damaged the honor of the university, its students, professors, and alumni, and greatly tarnished the university's image."


They continued, "As a candidate for the National Assembly, Kim holds a discriminatory and distorted view against women that should not be held, containing a clear intent to demean not only women of that time but women in general, including modern women."


Furthermore, Ewha Womans University declared, "We plan to take strict legal action against Kim for damaging the honor of the university and its members with unverified information and speculation," and demanded, "Kim should immediately apologize for his remarks and behavior and withdraw from the candidacy."


On August 14, 2022, Kim appeared on the YouTube channel 'Kim Yong-min TV' and claimed, "Kim Hwal-ran (the first president of Ewha Womans University) played a very significant role in sending comfort women to serve the country during the war," and asserted, "During the U.S. military government period, she forced Ewha Womans University students to provide sexual favors to U.S. officers."
