Expanded from 40 to 100 animals last year... Medical expenses supported up to 2 animals per household
Adoption fee up to 250,000 KRW for lost and abandoned animals
Guro-gu (District Mayor Moon Heon-il) announced that it will more than double the scale of support for this year's Our Neighborhood Animal Hospital project, expanding from 40 animals last year to 100 animals, to reduce the medical expenses burden for vulnerable groups' companion animals.
The support targets companion animals registered to basic livelihood security recipients, near-poverty groups, single-parent families, and others registered as residents in Guro-gu, providing medical expense support for up to two animals per household.
Medical expense support is divided into essential treatment and optional treatment.
Essential treatment includes basic health checkups, vaccinations, and heartworm prevention medication worth about 300,000 KRW, and guardians only need to pay a consultation fee of 10,000 KRW to receive treatment.
Optional treatment supports up to 200,000 KRW per animal for treatment costs of diseases found during the basic checkup, neutering surgery fees, and more.
To receive medical expense support, visit a designated animal hospital in the district with an ID and proof of vulnerable status.
The designated animal hospitals in the area include Good Morning Animal Hospital, Danaeun Animal Hospital, I Love Pet Animal Hospital, Kangaroo Animal Hospital, Hansem General Animal Hospital, and Happy Animal Hospital, totaling six locations.
Additionally, when adopting lost or abandoned animals rescued locally for companion purposes, up to 250,000 KRW is supported for necessary adoption costs such as diagnosis and treatment, vaccinations, neutering surgery, implanted animal registration, grooming, and pet insurance enrollment.
To receive adoption support, adopters must complete the adopter education on the ‘Animal Love Learning Center’ website after adoption and complete implanted animal registration for the companion animal.
Within six months after adoption, adopters must prepare and submit documents such as the adoption confirmation and adoption expense claim form by visiting, faxing, or emailing the Disease Control Division of the Guro-gu Public Health Center.
More detailed information can be found on the Guro-gu Office website.
A Guro-gu official stated, “Support for medical and adoption expenses will not only alleviate the economic burden for residents who consider companion animals as family but also help foster a mature companion culture. We will continue to prepare various support projects so that residents can enjoy a happy life with their companion animals.”
