According to the legal community on the 1st, the Seoul Bar, which received Yang's application for lawyer registration, recently forwarded the related documents to the Korean Bar Association (KBA) with a 'qualified opinion.'

The Seoul Bar stated, "In the case of former Chief Justice Yang, he was acquitted of all related charges in the first trial, and there are no grounds for refusal of registration under the Attorney-at-Law Act." Lawyer registration is finally decided by the KBA's Registration Review Committee after review by the Seoul Bar. If the KBA approves Yang's lawyer registration, there will be no restrictions on working at a law firm under current laws.

In the legal community, there is a strong expectation that former Justice Yang's lawyer registration application will be accepted. Former Justices Park Byung-dae and Ko Young-han, who were indicted together, were already judged by the KBA in 2020, during their first trial, to have no disqualifications.

Previously, in the case of former Supreme Court Sentencing Committee Standing Member Lee Gyu-jin, who received the first guilty verdict related to the judicial scandal, the Seoul Bar issued an unfavorable opinion on his lawyer registration, but the KBA approved it.

Meanwhile, it is expected that former Chief Justice Yang will join the law firm Class Han-gyeol as an advisory lawyer.
