Lee Cheon-soo, Won Hee-ryong Campaign on the Streets
Asked Amid Public Backlash, "Did Lee Jae-myung Order This?"
During the April 10 general election, a scene was captured where former national soccer player Lee Cheon-su, who is helping Won Hee-ryong, the People Power Party candidate for Incheon Gyeyang-eul, argue with a citizen. On the 31st of last month, a short video showing Lee Cheon-su campaigning for candidate Won in Incheon Gyeyang-gu was uploaded to a YouTube channel. In the video, when a citizen said "It's noisy," Lee Cheon-su retorted, "Your father is noisier."
People Power Party's Emergency Response Committee Chairman Han Dong-hoon is campaigning in support of candidate Won Hee-ryong in Gyeyang-gu, Incheon, on the 30th.
Lee Cheon-su judged that the citizen supported Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the opposition Democratic Party, and said, "Sir, please don't do that. If you do, candidate Lee Jae-myung will be worse off because he was told to do it. You shouldn't do that." He added, "Because of you, there has been no development for 25 years. A member of the National Assembly is not a position to elect a person in power. Residents of Gyeyang-gu, this National Assembly election is a chance to elect a worker who can work in Gyeyang."
While Lee Cheon-su was arguing with the citizen, candidate Won did not make any particular remarks and waved his hand toward the citizens. Reactions from netizens to the video were mixed. One netizen commented, "No matter what, fighting with citizens is wrong," and "Although the citizen started the quarrel, Lee Cheon-su was also reckless." On the other hand, another netizen argued, "The problem is the person who causes trouble by saying it's noisy just because the candidate they support is not the one campaigning," and "Lee Cheon-su didn't say anything wrong."
Meanwhile, Lee Cheon-su began supporting candidate Won as a sponsor chairman starting in February. In the 2020 general election, Lee Cheon-su supported the Democratic Party by campaigning for former Democratic Party leader Song Young-gil, but in this general election, he switched parties and began supporting candidate Won.
