StageX, which will emerge as the fourth mobile carrier, announced on the 1st that it will offer free data within specific areas of the 28GHz frequency band boasting fast 5G-based data speeds in the first half of next year.

A representative from StageX stated, "We plan to provide free data until the market stabilizes to support the customer experience of users who have not yet used the 28GHz frequency band."

Accordingly, StageX subscribers will be able to use real 5G at significantly faster speeds than existing 5G for free within the 28GHz hotspot areas starting from the first half of next year.

The locations where this service will be available include areas with excellent 28GHz frequency utilization such as subways, airports, concert halls, and densely populated areas where frequency diffraction and reflection are minimal.

In particular, according to the Seoul Transportation Usage Statistics Report, the subway has an average daily usage of 5,655,000 rides and an average usage time of 35.8 minutes, making it a location with both high user numbers and long dwell times. StageX is prioritizing the installation of base stations to implement 28GHz backhaul Wi-Fi in subways.

This frequency band offers an ultra-wide bandwidth of 800MHz, which is eight times wider than the current mid-to-low band 5G. It enables communication speeds far superior to existing 5G.

StageX, centered around the budget phone company StageFive, previously expressed its commitment to introducing 'real 5G' by winning the bid for the 28GHz frequency from the Ministry of Science and ICT.

A StageX representative said, "We plan to maximize coverage by building 28GHz backhaul Wi-Fi in subways and closely cooperating with the government and major device manufacturers to expand the adoption of compatible devices."
