Police Agency Intensifies Crackdown on River Theft, Robbery, and Everyday Violence Crimes

The National Investigation Headquarters of the National Police Agency announced on the 31st that it will conduct a focused crackdown on representative crimes infringing on people's livelihood, such as robbery and violence in daily life, until June 30.

This focused crackdown is interpreted as a preemptive response by the police after robbery crimes and violent crimes involving weapons, which had been decreasing, recently began to rise again.

First, the police plan to focus on cracking down on habitual 'robbery and stolen goods offenders.' By mobilizing all available personnel for intensive investigations and organic cooperation between police stations, they aim to resolve cases early to prevent further damage. In addition, they will strictly respond by investigating and arresting even additional crimes related to professional and habitual offenders.

To achieve practical damage recovery, the disposal and distribution routes of stolen goods will be thoroughly traced. Regarding stolen goods crimes, the police will sever the links with robbery offenders and block their motivation for recidivism.

The police will also conduct focused crackdowns on offenders involved in violence in daily life, including violence using weapons and violence in medical settings.

Violent acts involving weapons will be investigated with detention as the principle. Even in cases without detention, the police plan to actively consider the necessity of separation measures such as emergency hospitalization by conducting detailed analyses of abnormal motive crimes and checking for histories of mental illness.

In particular, amid the recent collective actions in the medical sector that have increased the workload of medical personnel remaining on site, the police plan to thoroughly investigate and strictly handle charges such as assault, threats, obstruction of business, and obstruction of official duties according to the situation for violent acts against medical staff and 119 paramedics.

A National Police Agency official stated, “To eradicate robbery crimes and violence in daily life, we will consolidate criminal investigation capabilities centered on the National Investigation Headquarters. For high-risk cases where damage is severe or there is concern about recidivism or retaliation, we will actively deploy available personnel such as the Criminal Mobile Unit to resolve cases swiftly. We also plan to do our best to recover damages and protect victims.”
