Daejeon Home Games Sold Out Two Days in a Row

Professional baseball team Hanwha Eagles defeated kt wiz and achieved a six-game winning streak.

On the 30th, Hanwha secured their sixth consecutive win with an 8-5 victory over kt in the 2024 Shinhan SOL Bank KBO League home game held at Daejeon Hanwha Life Eagles Park. This result means they have won all games except the opening match against LG out of the seven games played this season.

Hanwha's starting pitcher Felix Pe?a earned his second win of the season by allowing 2 runs over 5 innings. In batting, Yonathan Peraza and An Chi-hong each hit home runs in the 3rd inning, quickly creating a 4-0 score. It was Peraza's third home run of the season, and An Chi-hong's first home run since his transfer. In the bottom of the 4th inning, leadoff hitter Jung Eun-won hit a triple over the right fielder's reach, and Moon Hyun-bin added a sacrifice fly, increasing the score to 5-0.

Hanwha, who seemed to be winning easily, allowed a comeback as starting pitcher Felix Pe?a faltered. Pe?a issued a walk to leadoff hitter Jo Yong-ho and then gave up a two-run home run to Bae Jung-dae over the left-center field.

However, in the bottom of the 7th inning, with two outs and runners on first and second, Moon Hyun-bin hit a two-RBI double down the left field line, sealing the victory. Although Pe?a allowed a two-run home run to Mel Rojas Jr. in the 9th inning, it did not affect the game's outcome.

This marks the fourth time in history and the first in 26 years that Hanwha has won six out of seven opening games, following 1988, 1992, and 1998. Fans gathered at the stadium to celebrate Hanwha's rare early-season success after years of struggles. Following the home opener on the 29th, when ace Ryu Hyun-jin pitched, all 12,000 seats were filled for two consecutive games. Tickets for the final game of the three-game weekend series on the 31st have also already sold out.

On the other hand, KT, who broke their four-game losing streak with a walk-off win against the Doosan Bears in Suwon on the 28th, suffered back-to-back losses against Hanwha and fell into another losing streak. Their season record stands at 1 win and 6 losses.
