GTX-A Operation Begins... "Start of the 30-Minute Commuting Era in the Seoul Metropolitan Area"

The operation of the 수도권 광역급행철도 (GTX)-A line between Suseo and Dongtan began on the 30th.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced that the GTX-A train officially started service at 5:30 a.m. with the first train departing from Dongtan Station. As of 8 a.m. that day, a total of 13 trains had operated on schedule, including both directions.

The ministry deployed about 10 guides at each station to prevent safety accidents. During peak commuting hours, the number of guides was increased to about 20 to 30 per station.

The GTX-A train ends its daily operation when the last train arrives at each station around 1 a.m. the following day. The interval between trains is 17 minutes during peak hours and about 20 minutes during regular hours.

The train stops at three of the four stations on the Suseo-Dongtan section: Suseo Station, Seongnam Station, and Dongtan Station. Guseong Station, located between Seongnam and Dongtan Stations, is scheduled to open at the end of June.

The GTX-A line completed its preliminary feasibility study in 2009, began establishing the basic plan in 2014, and started construction in October 2016. A total of 2.1349 trillion won was invested in the project.

Park Sang-woo, Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, said, "With the first train, the era of 30-minute commuting has begun," adding, "The transportation revolution has started, reducing the Suseo-Dongtan section travel time from over 70 minutes to just 20 minutes, which will greatly change our lives."
