Mr. A was prosecuted on charges of deceiving the victim by pretending to hold 6 million US dollars at the US military base located in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province, and embezzling 100 million won.

Mr. A, in collusion with acquaintance Mr. B, showed the victim a US military ID, a money laundering permit, and photos of large bundles of dollars, deceiving the victim by saying that if he lent 100 million won for the currency exchange and processing fees necessary to bring out the 6 million dollars from the US military base, he would repay the 100 million won with part of the US dollars to be delivered, and would support 1 million dollars in funds needed for future king crab imports.

The court stated the sentencing reasons, saying, "Considering the method of the crime, the nature of the offense is very bad, and the amount of damage is considerable," and "Since the damage has not been recovered at all, it is inevitable to severely punish the defendant."

However, the fact that the defendant is showing remorse and that the victim also bears considerable responsibility for the occurrence of the crime were taken into account as favorable circumstances.
