Promotion of Sports for People with Disabilities
"Improving Awareness of Disabled and Non-Disabled"

The 'Bowling Festival' Hanmaeum Disabled Bowling Tournament for people with developmental disabilities in the Busan area concluded with big smiles.


It is one of the disability sports festivals boasting a long history not only in Busan but nationwide. This year marked the 20th event, and since it was not held for three years during the COVID-19 period, the history of the event spans well over 20 years. About 80 people with developmental disabilities competed in this tournament.


The Busan City Hanmaeum Disabled Support Center (CEO Jeon Jin-ho) held the 20th Hanmaeum Disabled Bowling Tournament on the 29th at 11 a.m. at Woosung Bowling Alley in Gamjeon-dong, Sasang-gu, Busan. This tournament started with the first event in 2001 and has now reached its twentieth edition. It is held annually to expand the base of disabled bowling and to promote disabled recreational sports.

Players participated from seven disability-related facilities including Dream Workshop, Busan Disabled Vocational Rehabilitation Facility Cherry Dongsan Daycare Center, Firefly Daycare Center, and Sasang-gu Disabled Sports Association.


To celebrate the event, about ten guests attended, including Jo Byung-gil, Mayor of Sasang-gu, Yoon Sook-hee, Chairperson of Sasang-gu Council, Sung Soo-yong, Chairman of Busan Job Creation Social Cooperative, and Choi Jung-woo, Chairman of the Korea Disabled Sports Promotion Institute, applauding the participants.


Candidates running in the 22nd general election and their campaign workers also visited the venue to win votes. Bae Jae-jung, the Democratic Party preliminary candidate for Sasang-gu, and the wife and campaign workers of Kim Dae-sik, the People Power Party candidate, greeted attendees and applauded as part of their election campaigns.


As a result of the tournament, Kwon Oh-sung from Hanmaeum Disabled Vocational Rehabilitation Center won first place, taking home the trophy and prizes.

Jeon Jin-ho, CEO of the Busan City Hanmaeum Disabled Support Center, which organized the event, smiled and said, "I would like to express my gratitude to the sponsors and related organizations who supported us in every way so that we could successfully complete the tournament up to the 20th event."


CEO Jeon added, "We will continue our unwavering efforts until perceptions of disability and non-disability improve and a society of communication and harmony where everyone enjoys a healthy life together is realized."


For his contributions to disability welfare and the promotion of recreational sports, Song So-yeon of Hanmaeum Vocational Rehabilitation Center received the Busan Mayor’s Award. Choi Jung-woo, Chairman of the Korea Disabled Sports Promotion Institute, and Jung Soo-ah, Chairperson of Hanmaeum Social Cooperative, were awarded the Busan Superintendent of Education Award. Additionally, Jo Jung-ho, CEO of Globe Impact Co., Ltd., received the Sasang-gu National Assembly Member Award from Jang Je-won.
