Korea Zinc announced that it will relocate its headquarters to Jongno to mark its 50th anniversary and take a new leap forward. Having grown into the world's leading non-ferrous metal smelting company over the past 50 years, Korea Zinc plans to start a new 50 years in a new office that embodies the core values and future vision of Korea Zinc symbolized by the Troika Drive.
Leaving its existing Nonhyeon-dong building, Korea Zinc is preparing for the future in the Gran Seoul Building located in Jongno. The office interior design will be completed by the end of next month, and after finishing the office construction by July, all members of Korea Zinc and its affiliates' departments will be relocated.
Jongno is not an unfamiliar place for Korea Zinc. It is a meaningful location where the company started its business at 33 Seorin-dong, Jongno-gu, with seven promoters including the late Chairman Choi Ki-ho and Honorary Chairman Choi Chang-geol in 1974.
After using the building in Seorin-dong, Jongno-gu as its headquarters for about six years, the company moved to the current headquarters building in Nonhyeon-dong in 1980, which has been used as the headquarters ever since. However, due to the expansion of new businesses driven by Korea Zinc’s future growth engines, the Troika Drive (secondary battery materials, renewable energy and green hydrogen, resource recycling), the need for new space has continuously emerged to accommodate the increase in personnel and enhance synergy between departments. Currently, the Nonhyeon-dong building faces severe space shortages, and some departments are using separate buildings near the main building as offices. Therefore, a new headquarters is necessary to maximize productivity and strengthen communication.
A Korea Zinc official stated, "As the workspace within the Youngpoong Building in Nonhyeon-dong that we currently use has become saturated, we have been continuously considering relocating to a new headquarters. After reviewing several location candidates, we decided to move to Gran Seoul in Jongno, taking into account various factors such as the symbolism of the first headquarters, employee work satisfaction, and accessibility."
