Lee Jun-seok says "No consideration" on unified candidate for ruling party in Seoul metropolitan area

Lee Jun-seok, leader of the Reform New Party, dismissed the possibility of candidate unification in the constituencies mentioned by the People Power Party, saying, "There has been no discussion at all."

In an interview with SBS Radio on the 29th, Lee said, "In the current situation where public opinion for judging the administration is very high, I am not sure if (unification) would actually help the Reform New Party candidates."

He added, "If (the ruling party) had any decency, would they make an official proposal? I will not consider it," emphasizing his stance.

Earlier, Jang Dong-hyuk, secretary-general of the People Power Party, said regarding unification with Yang Hyang-ja, the Reform New Party candidate in Yongin Gap, Gyeonggi Province, "We are open to the possibility of expanding unification to several other constituencies where the Reform New Party has candidates and are fully prepared to engage in dialogue."

Prior to this, Kim Seong-tae, co-chief of the People Power Party's Seoul regional election campaign committee, urged the Reform New Party to "magnanimously start discussions on unification among candidates in the metropolitan area."

In response, Cheon Ha-ram, general election campaign committee chief of the Reform New Party, clearly rejected the idea, saying, "This party was not created to engage in unification business," and "The Reform New Party has no intention whatsoever of unifying with the People Power Party."
