Phil Energy Nears Order for 46 Series Winder... "Capable of Handling Large Volume"

Fil Energy, a specialized company in secondary battery equipment, announced on the 29th that it is expanding its business area to include the winding machine for the 46 series, which is gaining attention in the electric vehicle (EV) market, following its core products such as the integrated stacking equipment and laser notching equipment. The company has also secured a production capacity (CAPA) worth 500 billion KRW to respond to large-scale orders.

A Fil Energy official stated, “We have successfully completed the development of the cylindrical winding machine,” adding, “We are actively conducting order activities with several customers, and expect to announce the first order soon.” He further noted, “With the expansion of the cylindrical EV battery market, the 46 series cylindrical winding machine will be a major driving force for customer diversification and growth.”

The winding machine is equipment that rolls the electrode plate reels, which have completed the electrode plate pre-process, into a cylindrical battery form. Since the product quality can vary significantly depending on the equipment’s performance, it is regarded as a core piece of equipment.

With the completion of the winding machine development, Fil Energy has secured a new growth engine. The company has established an equipment lineup including △EV (prismatic) △EV (cylindrical) △all-solid-state batteries, allowing flexible response to market trend changes. Fil Energy, equipped with the 46 series winding machine equipment, aims to secure multiple customers based on its technological capabilities. Furthermore, it plans to solidify its top-tier position within the domestic battery equipment industry.

Earlier, CEO Kim Kwang-il also revealed mid- to long-term management goals to Fil Energy shareholders. At the 4th regular shareholders’ meeting held on the 26th, CEO Kim presented △market leadership based on research and development (R&D) △customer diversification △CAPA expansion as mid- to long-term plans. Fil Energy recently completed the expansion of its new factory, thereby securing equipment manufacturing capacity exceeding 500 billion KRW annually.

CEO Kim added, “By utilizing the dry room (a space where the moisture content in the air is controlled below a certain level) prepared in the new factory, we will lay the foundation for growth in next-generation battery markets such as all-solid-state batteries.”

The dry room is an essential element in the battery manufacturing process. Since lithium and other materials, which are attracting attention as next-generation battery materials, are vulnerable to moisture, a dry room capable of strictly controlling humidity is required. However, many companies hesitate to install such facilities due to high investment and maintenance costs. Fil Energy plans to expand the operation of the dry room and use it as a dedicated space for customer sample responses and equipment testing.

In addition, management plans also mentioned △maintaining market leadership (enhancing cost competitiveness of integrated stacking equipment) △leading the transition from molds to laser notching (developing high-speed technology for mass production of laser notching on cathode mixture parts).
