A collision involving 13 vehicles occurred in the Hwarang-ro area of Seongbuk-gu, Seoul, resulting in 17 injuries and the death of one driver.
According to the Jongam Police Station in Seoul, at around 9:20 a.m. on the 29th, a 13-vehicle pile-up happened on the road heading from Seokgye Station to Dolgoti Station on Subway Line 6 in Seongbuk-gu, Seoul.
Police investigation revealed that the driver of a ready-mixed concrete truck failed to apply the brakes on a downhill slope and collided with a stationary 1-ton truck, causing a chain reaction involving 13 vehicles.
As a result of the accident, 17 people were injured, with 5 of them transported to nearby hospitals. The driver of the 1-ton truck died, and it was reported that one person sustained serious injuries and three others minor injuries.
Currently, the police are controlling traffic on the roads around Hwarang-ro where the accident occurred and are investigating the exact cause of the crash.
Meanwhile, at 10:09 a.m., the Seongbuk District Office sent a safety advisory text message stating, "Due to the 13-vehicle pile-up, the road is fully closed. Please use nearby roads as detours."
