Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, claimed that the prosecution is to blame for the situation where he must appear in court until just before the general election, as he attended the trial related to the Daejang-dong, Wirye, Baekhyeon-dong, and Seongnam FC cases on the 29th, the second day of the official election campaign for the April 10 general election.

Before attending the trial on charges including violation of the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes (bribery) held at the Seoul Central District Court Criminal Division 33 (Presiding Judge Kim Dong-hyun), Lee told reporters, “Although the 13-day election period is truly precious time, I respected the court’s decision and appeared,” adding, “I think this itself is the result targeted by the political prosecution of a prosecutorial dictatorship.”
He also said, “I believe that our party members, supporters, and the public will judge the regime’s reckless actions and regression on April 10.”
He did not respond to reporters’ questions about whether he would attend all trials until the day before the general election or whether he would continue to request changes to the trial dates.
Including today, Lee must also appear in court on April 2 and April 9, the day before the general election voting. Lee’s side argued at the previous hearing that requiring court appearances during the election campaign period was unfair, but the court rejected this, saying, “If the schedule is adjusted, the term ‘exception’ arises.” The court has stated that if Lee fails to appear without permission, a warrant for his arrest will be issued.
