On the 28th (local time), at the Memorial Park Golf Course (par 70, 7,435 yards) in Houston, Texas, USA, Lee shot 2-under 68 in the first round of the PGA Tour Texas Children's Houston Open (total prize money $9.1 million), placing him tied for 17th. Second-year player Kim Sung-hyun also joined this group, aiming to climb the leaderboard. Taylor Moore and Will Zalatoris (both from the USA) dominated the top of the leaderboard with 6-under 64.
Lee Kyoung-hoon made two birdies without any bogeys. Starting at the 10th hole (par 4), he had a steady parade of pars through 16 holes, then showed strong finishing power by making consecutive birdies on the 8th and 9th holes. His scrambling ability was outstanding, converting every crisis where he missed the green into at least a par. He is four strokes behind the co-leaders. Lee has entered the top 10 twice in his last three tournaments. His best personal result this year is a tie for 4th at the Cognizant Classic earlier this month.
World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler (USA) collected five birdies. He is tied for 3rd place at 5-under 65. He won his first title of the season at the Arnold Palmer Invitational on the 11th and followed it up with a second consecutive win at The Players Championship, known as the 'fifth major,' a week later. He has set the stage to potentially win three consecutive tournaments. From Korea, Kim Si-woo is tied for 35th at 1-under 69, and Kang Sung-hoon is tied for 100th at 2-over 72.
