Apple plans to launch new iPad models in early May, Bloomberg reported on the 28th (local time).
The news agency cited sources saying that Apple is preparing to release improved versions of the 'iPad Pro' and 'iPad Air.' The Pro model is expected to feature a sharper OLED display and an M3 chip, and will be compatible with a newly designed 'Magic Keyboard' and 'Apple Pencil.'
The Air model will also be equipped with a new processor. Additionally, for the first time, a 12.9-inch screen option will be added, allowing consumers to purchase a large-screen iPad at a lower price than the Pro model.
Until now, Apple had not released a new tablet line for about 18 months, marking the longest gap in the history of the iPad series. Bloomberg assessed that the launch of the new model will also help resolve the recent sluggish performance of the iPad. During the pandemic period, demand surged, and iPad sales reached $31.9 billion (approximately 43 trillion KRW) in 2021, but sales have declined for two consecutive years since then. Even during the year-end holiday season, which generally sees high demand for gifts, sales volume dropped by 25% compared to the same period last year.
Originally, Apple planned to release the new products at the end of this month or early next month, but the news agency reported that more time is needed to complete the software. It is predicted that the new products will be launched about a month before Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference scheduled for June 10. Apple did not respond to requests for comments regarding the new iPad launch.
Meanwhile, on the New York Stock Exchange that day, Apple's stock closed at $171.48, down 1.06% from the previous session.
