Last Year 10, This Year 2 in Sangdo-dong and 1 in Sadang-dong Utility Pole Relocations Completed, Resolving Resident Inconvenience
Dongjak-gu (Mayor Park Il-ha) announced on the 29th that it has completed the relocation of the 13th utility pole, which was causing inconvenience to pedestrians on the school route located at Sadang-dong 708-1008.
The utility pole is situated on the way to and from Hangrim Elementary School and Dongjak High School, positioned at the boundary between the sidewalk and the roadway at the intersection of two crosswalks within the school zone, posing a threat to both vehicle traffic and student pedestrians.
Accordingly, the district conducted preliminary work such as communication conduit and line construction, and relocated the utility pole, which was a pedestrian hazard, next to the power pole on the sidewalk.
This relocation is expected to secure drivers’ visibility to prevent safety accidents and contribute to creating a safe route for parents and students to commute to school with peace of mind.
Previously, last month, the district relocated two utility poles that were obstructing pedestrian traffic in a residential area of Sangdo 4-dong (Yangnyeong-ro 23-gil 75), bringing the total number of poles maintained this year to three.
To faithfully implement the ‘Utility Pole Maintenance Project to Alleviate Traffic Inconvenience,’ a pledge of the 8th local government administration, the district conducted a full survey of utility poles in the area, proceeded with technical reviews by related organizations such as KT, conducted additional joint on-site inspections, and gathered residents’ opinions before promoting the relocation.
Last year, the district achieved the relocation of a total of 10 utility poles, and this year aims to maintain more than 10 poles to actively resolve residents’ inconveniences.
Park Il-ha, Mayor of Dongjak-gu, stated, “Through this utility pole relocation, we will strengthen pedestrian safety and improve the urban landscape,” adding, “We will continue to actively reflect the voices from various local sites to resolve residents’ inconveniences.”
