Yangcheon-gu, Experience-Centered Customized 'Visiting Safety Education'

Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Lee Gi-jae) announced that it plans to operate the "Visiting Life Safety Education," which provides customized safety knowledge specialized for each life stage from infancy to old age, 200 times a year for 4,000 residents starting in April to enhance life safety capabilities.

Last year, the district conducted 498 safety education sessions at 202 institutions such as daycare centers, welfare centers, and senior centers, spreading safety knowledge to over 15,000 people.

The district decided to continue well-structured safety education by generation despite the tight fiscal policy, as strengthening safety capabilities is an essential element for urban safety and the well-being of residents.

This year’s "Visiting Life Safety Education" will be conducted by carefully selected professional instructors, covering five major areas of life cycle safety education: ▲life safety ▲traffic safety ▲natural disaster safety ▲crime safety ▲health safety. Each session will last one hour, combining theory and practice on topics requested by the applying institutions from among 18 subfields. In particular, this year, education on safe drug use, which has emerged as a social issue, as well as cyber fraud (voice phishing) and cyber violence prevention education will be included to focus on damage prevention.

Additionally, to provide hands-on training similar to real situations, the district has newly reinforced emergency alarm devices and airway obstruction vests for learning the Heimlich maneuver. Other teaching aids to be used include ▲CPR training mannequins ▲automated external defibrillators ▲pedestrian crossing and traffic light sets for infant traffic safety education ▲fire extinguishers and smoke generators for fire education ▲disaster bags for earthquake education.

The number of participants per session will be organized into small groups of about 20 people to allow individual practice for all attendees. Institutions wishing to receive education in the first half of the year (April to July) can apply by April 9 through the district office’s integrated reservation portal on the website or via the person in charge’s email. Applications for the second half of the year (August to December) will begin in July.

Lee Gi-jae, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, said, “I hope that the ‘Visiting Life Safety Education,’ which provides age-specific customized safety knowledge, will become a solid foundation that protects the precious daily lives of our residents.” He added, “We will continue to build a robust safety infrastructure under the policy of ‘no compromise on safety’ to create a safe and secure city, Yangcheon.”
