First Initiative This Year...Special Activity Fees Support for 124 Entire Daycare Centers' Preschool Classes
20,000 KRW per Child Aged 3-5 per Month...1,875 Enrolled Children Eligible for Support
Expected to Strengthen Competitiveness of Daycare Centers Facing Operational Difficulties to Ease Economic Burden on Childcare Families
Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) will provide a special activity allowance of 20,000 KRW per child each month for children aged 3 to 5 attending daycare centers.
Special activities at daycare centers include educational or play experiences such as forest exploration and physical education, which are offered separately from the regular childcare curriculum. Previously, parents had to pay participation fees, but starting this year, the district will cover these costs to reduce the childcare expenses for families.
To this end, the district is allocating a budget of 375 million KRW. Subsidies will be provided monthly to all 124 daycare centers located in Gwangjin-gu. It is expected that 1,875 children attending the preschool classes at these centers will benefit from this support.
This initiative also aims to strengthen the competitiveness of daycare centers. It reflects the voices from the field facing difficulties in facility operations due to a decrease in childcare children. Through this financial support, the district intends to help provide high-quality childcare services.
Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “I hope the special activity allowance, introduced for the first time this year, will be helpful to both daycare centers and parents,” adding, “We will promote childcare policies that provide practical support to create a better environment for raising children.”
