Name Change of Nearby Jayang Station and Renaming to 'Jayang Hangang Traditional Market' from March
Expectations to Alleviate Visitor Inconvenience and Revitalize the Traditional Market with the New Market Name
Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) announced that the name of the ‘Neungdong-ro Alley Market,’ which has a history of over 50 years, has been changed to ‘Jayang Hangang Traditional Market.’
Located in Jayang-dong, Neungdong-ro Alley Market (Merchant Association President Seo Jeong-im) is a representative traditional market of Gwangjin-gu that has been loved by residents for a long time since its establishment in 1973. The land area reaches 5,684㎡, and currently, 85 stores are operating. However, despite being located in Jayang-dong, many visitors were confused about the exact market location due to the market name referencing Neungdong-ro.
President Seo Jeong-im of the Merchant Association said, “Since the nearby Ttukseom Resort Station was renamed to Jayang (Ttukseom Hangang Park) Station, we changed the market name to Jayang Hangang Traditional Market starting in March so that visitors can easily identify the market location without confusion.”
Additionally, Jayang Hangang Traditional Market plans to actively promote the traditional market and create a vibrant atmosphere by installing an entrance gate around the end of April and preparing a customer appreciation festival in May.
Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “We changed the name to Jayang Hangang Traditional Market to resolve the inconvenience of residents visiting the traditional market,” and added, “We will continue to seek and implement various measures to revitalize traditional markets.”
