Friday Rain Mixed with Yellow Dust Nationwide... Fine Dust 'Very Bad'

Yellow Dust Impact Until Weekend

On Friday the 29th, yellow dust originating from the Inner Mongolian Plateau will cause very poor air quality nationwide. Meanwhile, rain clouds will move into the central region, bringing expected 'yellow dust rain.'

According to the National Institute of Environmental Research on the 28th, yellow dust originating from the Inner Mongolian Plateau is flowing into the Korean Peninsula on northwesterly winds, causing PM10 fine dust concentrations in the metropolitan area, Gangwon, Chungnam, and Gyeongbuk to reach 'very bad' levels on the 29th, while other regions are expected to be at 'bad' levels.

Areas expected to have bad fine dust levels may temporarily spike to 'very bad' levels in the afternoon.

The yellow dust is likely to affect most regions nationwide until Saturday the 30th.

As the worst yellow dust this spring is expected, the Ministry of Environment issued a 'caution' level yellow dust crisis alert at 5 p.m. on the 28th for the metropolitan area, Gangwon, Chungnam, and Gyeongbuk.

The National Institute of Environmental Research stated, "The duration and affected areas of yellow dust will vary depending on the amount of yellow dust generated and air currents," and urged, "Please check the latest information frequently."

Along with the influx of yellow dust, there is also news of rain. However, most of the rain falling on the 28th will stop by evening. Only the Gyeongsang coastal area may experience rain continuing until late at night.

On the 29th, a new pressure trough will pass north of our country, bringing occasional rain starting in the morning from Incheon and the western coast of Gyeonggi, extending into the afternoon over the metropolitan area, western Gangwon, Chungcheong, inland Jeonbuk, and western inland Gyeongsang.

Strong winds are expected in most regions nationwide from the 29th until early morning of the 30th. Until the night of the 28th, the southern East Coast of Gyeongbuk, the coast of Gyeongnam, and the mountainous areas of Jeju will experience gusts exceeding 70 km/h (around 90 km/h in mountainous areas), while strong winds with gusts around 55 km/h (70 km/h in mountainous areas) will continue in eastern Gangwon, the coast of Jeonnam, and Jeju (excluding mountainous areas).

The lowest temperatures on the morning of the 29th will range from 1 to 10 degrees Celsius, and the highest temperatures during the day will range from 11 to 21 degrees Celsius. Expected low and high temperatures in major cities are Seoul 5°C and 13°C, Incheon 6°C and 11°C, Daejeon 5°C and 15°C, Gwangju 7°C and 17°C, Daegu 6°C and 20°C, Ulsan 8°C and 19°C, and Busan 10°C and 18°C.
