Lee Nak-yeon, Jeong Hyeong-o, and Park Byeong-seok Pay Respects at 5·18 National Cemetery
Lee Nak-yeon, the candidate for Gwangsan-gu (Eul) in Gwangju Metropolitan City, along with other candidates from the Gwangju area, have officially begun their campaigns for the 22nd general election.
Lee Nak-yeon, Jeong Hyeong-o, Park Byeong-seok, candidates from the New Future Party, proportional representation candidates, and officials from the Gwangju City Party visited the 5·18 National Cemetery on the 28th to pay their respects and honor the spirit of Gwangju, pledging victory in this election.
They laid flowers and offered incense in front of the memorial tower, then knelt to honor and remember the souls of the 5·18 victims and democratic martyrs.
After the visit, candidate Lee Nak-yeon had a surprise encounter with In Yo-han, the election committee chairman of the People's Future Party, at the Gate of Democracy.
Chairman In expressed his gratitude to candidate Lee, saying, "Thank you for preserving and reviving the spirit of Kim Dae-jung," to which Lee responded, "Although our parties differ, let us converge on national development and the protection of the people."
Chairman In, who has been engaged in medical activities based in Suncheon, is known to have had a close relationship with former President Kim Dae-jung and deeply respected him.
Meanwhile, candidate Lee Nak-yeon wrote in the guestbook, "I will normalize the Republic of Korea with the May spirit and make Gwangju even prouder."
