Mandatory Voting Response at 76.5%... "Higher Than Last General Election"

A survey on voter awareness for the 22nd general election revealed that senior citizens showed strong turnout.


According to the 'Voter Awareness Survey' released by the National Election Commission on the 28th, the proportion of voters who responded that they would definitely vote in this election was 76.5%. This is 3.8% higher compared to the 72.7% of respondents who expressed their intention to vote in the previous general election.


In terms of interest in voting, the percentage of respondents who said they were interested was 83.3%, which is 2.1% higher than the same type of survey conducted during the last general election.


Although overall interest in the election increased, distinctly different patterns were observed across generations.

Among those in their 20s (ages 18-29), the intention to vote was 52.3%, which is 0.5 percentage points lower than the previous election survey. For those in their 30s, it dropped by 5.5 percentage points to 65.8%, and for those in their 40s, it was 76.9%, down by 0.1 percentage points. On the other hand, those in their 50s showed a 10.4 percentage point increase to 84.2%, those in their 60s rose by 3 percentage points to 86.8%, and those aged 70 and above showed an 8.3 percentage point increase to 90.8% in their intention to vote compared to the last election.

This public opinion survey was conducted by the National Election Commission, which commissioned Gallup, a polling company, to carry out telephone interviews from the 18th to the 19th with 1,500 adults aged 18 and over nationwide.
