Customized Service for Large and Medium-Sized Enterprise Customer Orders
Accelerating Localization with BYD Korea Factory Project 추진
LS Electric, celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, is advancing its business as a 'smart factory service company.' Rather than simply supplying equipment such as PLCs (programmable logic controllers) to clients, the company aims to enhance the level of localization by providing services that support clients' process innovation. A smart factory refers to a factory that automates the entire product manufacturing process using artificial intelligence (AI), big data, and other technologies.
Lee Sang-jun, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of LS Electric Automation CIC, expressed his ambition in an interview with Asia Economy to evolve into a company leading the development of South Korea's automation industry. The interview took place on the 27th of last month at the 'Smart Factory & Automation Industry Exhibition (AW) 2024' held at COEX in Samseong-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul.

Lee emphasized, "We are moving beyond simply delivering products like PLCs in the quantities ordered to providing various solutions and approaching customers." He added, "After identifying whether the customer is a small, medium, or large enterprise, we offer customized services. Large companies often aim for 'digital twin' factories where AI autonomously leads the processes, so we provide tailored services accordingly, while small and medium enterprises focus on reducing defect rates."
LS Electric's participation in AW 2024 was to promote this automation service business model and to share the company's history, present, and future vision with its clients.
Lee stated, "LS Electric's management policy is to reduce dependence on foreign products across all areas of automation parts, devices, and services to help our clients enhance the price competitiveness of their products and services." He further expressed, "We will work to reduce the concentration of foreign products in key partner components, data management, software, and communications for our clients."

LS Electric is currently discussing the supply of process solutions for the factory of BYD, the world's largest electric vehicle manufacturer from China, which is planning to open a plant in Chungbuk in the second half of the year. The company is exploring business opportunities through KG Mobility (formerly SsangYong Motor), a long-term client allied with BYD.
Lee said, "We are seeking business opportunities related to BYD's electric vehicle battery process solutions," and confidently added, "We will not only promote the localization of smart factory solutions for our clients but also demonstrate the excellence of domestic solutions to overseas companies like BYD."
