Selected for the Ministry of Employment and Labor's 'Future Tomorrow Work Experience Project'
The Changwon Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Gyeongnam was finally selected as the Gyeongnam, Ulsan, and Busan Metropolitan Support Center for the ‘Future Tomorrow Work Experience Project’ hosted by the Ministry of Employment and Labor, and officially launched the project on the 28th.
The Future Tomorrow Work Experience Project is a program that helps unemployed youth aged 15 to 34 directly experience various job roles in the workplace, allowing them to explore jobs that suit them and develop their own capabilities.
Adopted as a national government task to support the smooth entry of youth into the labor market, this project received great response from young people, with about 20,000 applicants in 2023 alone. It is highly rated as the most preferred government-supported youth employment project, with high satisfaction from participating youth and companies, and many participants securing regular employment after participation. However, the project has mostly been centered in the Seoul metropolitan area, providing limited opportunities for youth in other regions.
Accordingly, the Changwon Chamber of Commerce and Industry has been authorized to operate a metropolitan support center from this year to provide broader opportunities and benefits to youth in Gyeongnam, Busan, and Ulsan. Especially this year, with plans to support more than twice the number of youth compared to last year, the Changwon Chamber of Commerce and Industry plans to focus its capabilities on the role and activities of the Gyeongnam, Ulsan, and Busan support center.
The Future Tomorrow Work Experience Project offers support mainly through two programs: the project type and the internship type.
In the project-type support, participating companies propose projects needed for their current operations, and the participating youth form teams to solve the projects independently over eight weeks.
The results obtained through this process are used to evaluate capabilities, and excellent outcomes can be utilized by the companies. During the eight-week period, a team support fund of 2.4 million KRW and a youth allowance of 600,000 KRW are provided, along with expert mentoring, company supervisor coaching, and pre-job training.
In the internship-type support, youth gain job experience by directly performing tasks or current operations at companies. Unlike traditional internships, companies are not obligated to provide the four major social insurances, and the Ministry of Employment and Labor enrolls participants in accident insurance collectively to minimize the burden on companies. Specifically, participating youth receive an activity allowance of 1.4 million KRW for four weeks, and participating companies receive 200,000 KRW in support funds plus separate mentoring fees.

A representative of the Changwon Chamber of Commerce and Industry said, “Last year, the Future Tomorrow Work Experience Project received great response from youth seeking jobs suited to their aptitudes and companies looking for customized talent. Although it was mainly conducted in the Seoul metropolitan area, from this year it will be actively carried out in the region centered on the Changwon Chamber of Commerce and Industry Metropolitan Support Center.” He added, “The top priority for retaining youth in the region is jobs, so we will focus our efforts on resolving the mismatch between job seekers and employers in the region through this project.”
