Mass Production Begins with Samsung 14nm FinFET Process
Semifive, a semiconductor design solution company, announced on the 28th that the AI semiconductor 'ARIES,' developed in collaboration with AI semiconductor startup Mobilint, is being mass-produced using Samsung Foundry's semiconductor manufacturing process. Semifive developed ARIES using its proprietary methodology and domain-specific platform architecture, and provided silicon samples to Mobilint.
ARIES is an AI inference chip boasting a performance of up to 80 trillion operations per second (80 TOPS). It has been tested with over 200 open-source deep learning models. It can be utilized in advanced vision applications, edge servers, and hyperscale data centers. Dongju Shin, CEO of Mobilint, explained, "It will be a key solution in the era of intensive AI applications such as advanced robotics."
Semifive's 14-nanometer (㎚·1㎚=one billionth of a meter) AI inference system-on-chip (SoC) platform supports the implementation of custom AI chips such as data center accelerators and AI vision processor application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs). It includes a quad-core 64-bit high-performance central processing unit (CPU) and a 4-channel low-power double data rate (LPDDR)4 interface.
This mass production marks the third commercialization case of Semifive's SoC platform solution applying Samsung Foundry's FinFET process technology. Myunghyun Jo, CEO of Semifive, stated, "As a Samsung Foundry Design Solution Partner (DSP), we are enabling various customers to produce AI semiconductors in the most efficient way."
Sanghoon Park, Executive Vice President of Samsung Electronics' Foundry Business Division, said, "AI applications are a core growth and focus area of Samsung Foundry's business." He added, "The Samsung Foundry DSP ecosystem plays an important role in providing custom SoC designs."
