Songpa-gu (District Mayor Seo Gang-seok) announced on the 28th that it will activate an "emergency transportation plan," including deploying free shuttle buses, to minimize transportation inconveniences for residents as the Seoul City Bus Labor Union begins a general strike on the 28th.
To proactively prepare for the announced Seoul city bus strike, the district formed an "Emergency Transportation Headquarters," activated a control room, and began implementing measures according to different situations. Until the strike ends, 54 staff members will work daily in four teams on two shifts.
In particular, starting from 5:30 AM on the 28th, the district has proactively prepared 23 emergency transportation buses (with 42 seats or more) as free shuttle buses, prioritizing deployment in public transportation vulnerable areas to reduce residents' inconvenience with full efforts.
Currently, 23 free shuttle buses operate on a total of 9 routes, running 360 trips per day.
According to the 2024 public transportation usage status in Songpa-gu, the average daily number of combined bus and subway rides on weekdays is 494,607, ranking 4th among Seoul's autonomous districts.
Accordingly, the district plans to operate a total of 9 temporary routes within the area to minimize travel inconvenience not only for residents but also for citizens commuting to and from Songpa, enabling shuttle bus users to smoothly transfer to the subway.
The operating routes are: ▲ Route 1 circulating through Cheonho Station and Pungnap 1-dong ▲ Route 2 connecting Jamsil Station - Samjeon Station - Seokchon Gobun Station - Jamsil Station ▲ Route 3 from Namhansanseong Entrance - Macheon Station - Geoyeo Station ▲ Route 4 circulating Seokchon-dong via Seokchon Station and Seokchon Gobun Station ▲ Route 5 covering Sports Complex - Jamsil Saenae Station - Jamsil Bon-dong - Jamsil 7-dong ▲ Route 6 circulating Garak Bon-dong ▲ Route 7 from Macheon-dong - Munjeong Station - Garak Market Station ▲ Route 8 passing through Geoyeo, Gaerong, Ogeum, and Jamsilnaru Station ▲ Route 9 covering Munjeong-dong - Jangji-dong - Bukwirye. Operating hours are daily from 5:30 AM to 11:30 PM.
Additionally, to ensure smooth operation of the emergency transportation buses, one public official will be assigned per bus vehicle to assist with boarding guidance and support the driver. Furthermore, to enable many residents to use the emergency transportation vehicles, shuttle bus operation notices and route maps have been posted at each bus stop to reduce confusion among residents.
More detailed information can be found on the Songpa-gu website and on notices posted at each bus stop.
Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, stated, "We have proactively prepared an emergency transportation plan linked with local subway stations to minimize residents' inconvenience caused by the sudden suspension of city bus operations. The district will mobilize all administrative resources to prioritize user safety and do its best to alleviate residents' transportation inconveniences, including support for emergency transportation vehicles."
