Mokpo City and Sinan County Hold Practical Council Meeting for Resident Convenience and Win-Win Task Implementation

Gathering Wisdom and Capabilities for Discovering and Implementing Resident-Centered Policies Comparable to Integration

Sharing Win-Win Task Discovery, Promotion Plans, and Implementation Measures in Two Cities and Counties

Mokpo City in Jeonnam held the first meeting of the ‘Mokpo-Shinan Win-Win Task Implementation Working Council’ on the 27th at the city hall situation room.

According to the city on the 28th, the ‘Mokpo-Shinan Win-Win Task Implementation Working Council’ is a working body for the ‘win-win cooperation projects’ jointly promoted with Shinan County. About 10 people, including deputy heads of both city and county and officials from related departments, attended the meeting.

At the meeting, the two local governments shared plans for promoting win-win cooperation projects and discussed implementation measures, exchanging various opinions.

Since September last year, the two local governments have identified 26 win-win tasks focused on resident convenience that allow residents of both areas to experience the effects of integration in advance. To practically promote the discovered win-win cooperation projects, they formed the joint consultative body ‘Mokpo-Shinan Win-Win Task Implementation Working Council’ last month.

The agenda items presented at this first meeting included △ equal application of crematorium usage fees △ expansion of one cremation furnace at Mokpo City crematorium △ integrated tourism marketing for Shinan and Mokpo △ joint use of shopping malls by Shinan County and Mokpo City △ purchase of Shinan agricultural products by Mokpo City School Meal Support Center △ promotion of Dodong Win-Win Exchange Movement △ various media promotions to create an integrated atmosphere between Mokpo and Shinan.

Regarding the use of the crematorium by Shinan residents, the equal application of usage fees will be pursued as a long-term task after sufficient discussions between the two local governments and fulfilling legal requirements such as ordinance amendments. Meanwhile, the plan to expand one cremation furnace in 2025 to improve convenience for island residents will be actively promoted.

Additionally, when local residents use paid tourist attractions such as museums and parks, efforts will be made through related ordinance amendments to ensure that admission fee discounts are mutually applied equally. Joint tourism marketing will also be promoted, including developing linked tourism products for major tourist sites and jointly producing tourist guide maps.

Regarding the priority purchase of Shinan agricultural products by the Mokpo City School Meal Support Center, after surveying farms capable of supplying eco-friendly agricultural products and quantities within Shinan County, the plan is to proceed through agreements between related organizations next month. Concerning the joint use of shopping malls, support measures will be prepared, including actively promoting Mokpo companies to enter the Shinan1004 Mall.

Furthermore, efforts will be made to expand a voluntary exchange atmosphere in the private sector and create opportunities for exchanges such as workshops to strengthen the capabilities of officials from both local governments, meetings between public officials’ unions, and jointly promoting various sports competitions.

A city official stated, “As this year’s second half and next year are the most important periods for achieving integration, we will do our best to continuously discover and promote resident convenience projects that residents can feel even before integration, while further expanding support for private-sector-centered exchanges.”
