During Muhak Market Election Campaign, Candidate Insulted by Citizen
Amid Ongoing Campaign Disruptions, Calls for "Respecting Differences" Made
Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, was campaigning at Muhak Market in Chungju, Chungbuk on the 27th when he was insulted by a citizen with the words "shameful X." Lee pointed out, "This is the biggest problem in our society." As Lee was greeting citizens and about to give a campaign speech, a citizen shouted at him, "You are the most shameful Lee Jae-myung from Andong, Gyeongbuk, you X." Andong, Gyeongbuk is Lee Jae-myung's hometown.

As the disruption continued, Lee said, "There are all kinds of people in the world, so you just have to accept that there are such people," but added, "This is the biggest problem in our society, and we must acknowledge differences." He went on to criticize the government, saying, "The biggest mistakes of the Yoon Seok-yeol administration are ruining the economy, putting peace on the Korean Peninsula at risk, and destroying democracy, but an even bigger mistake is driving the people into a battlefield of confrontation and hostility."
He continued, "The president's greatest role is to unite the people. But the president himself is driving the people into division and confrontation with strange words like 'communist totalitarianism,' which we have never even heard of in textbooks." He also mentioned the incident when he was attacked with a weapon, saying, "The police cleaned the scene in less than an hour," and claimed, "In the case of Rep. Bae Hyun-jin of the People Power Party being hit by a stone, they set up a police line, conducted forensic investigations, and made a huge fuss."
Finally, Lee appealed for support, saying, "The economy, people's livelihoods, and peace are facing crises, but if the people elect good politicians and stay alert, recovery will be easy. However, the hostility accumulated in the hearts of the people will not be easily resolved," and added, "We must judge the Yoon Seok-yeol administration on April 10, and the main point of judgment should be that it has driven the people into hostility and division."
