KIPO Announces Recruitment for Participants in the 'Campus Patent Universiade Competition'

The Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) announced on the 28th that it will recruit participants for the "2024 Campus Patent Universiade (hereinafter referred to as the competition)" from April 28 to May 17.

The competition involves university (graduate) students participating individually or in teams to propose strategies based on patent big data aligned with technical topics (problems) presented by companies and research institutions. In its 17th year, this competition features 27 companies and institutions, including Samsung Electronics, Hyundai Motor Company, SK Hynix, and Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute, which have presented a total of 32 topics.

Notably, this year’s problems focus intensively on future promising technologies such as artificial intelligence, quantum computing technology, autonomous vehicles, and secondary batteries, which are among the 12 national strategic technology fields. These 12 national strategic technology fields include semiconductors and displays, secondary batteries, advanced mobility, next-generation nuclear power, advanced bio, aerospace and marine, hydrogen, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, next-generation communications, advanced robotics and manufacturing, and quantum technologies.

KIPO plans to announce the winners on September 24 after reviewing the submitted answers from participants and hold an awards ceremony in November.

At the awards ceremony, the presidential award winner will receive a prize of 15 million KRW, and the prime minister’s award winner will receive 12 million KRW. Additionally, competition winners will receive preferential benefits when applying for support (employment) at sponsoring companies.
