Geumcheon-gu Installs 214 Ventilated Air Purifiers in Daycare Centers and Senior Centers

Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that since last year, it has installed 214 units of the 'window-attached ventilation system' capable of reducing fine dust in daycare centers and senior facilities.

This initiative was undertaken to protect the health of children and seniors, who are relatively vulnerable to damage caused by fine dust, and to provide a comfortable indoor environment.

The 'window-attached ventilation system' is a product that adds ventilation functions to an air purifier, and among the fine dust reduction devices installed by the district, it received the highest user satisfaction.

Existing air purifiers remove indoor fine dust but when used in enclosed spaces, carbon dioxide levels rise, making ventilation essential.

The 'window-attached ventilation system' purifies and introduces external polluted air while simultaneously expelling internal polluted air outside. It provides both air purification and ventilation functions, allowing use without ventilation even on days with high concentrations of fine dust.

IoT-based sensors detect indoor fine dust and carbon dioxide levels, and when these exceed the standard, the system operates automatically. It maintains appropriate air quality on its own, making it easy for children and seniors who are unfamiliar with operating machines to use. Additionally, its thin design allows it to be attached to windows without occupying space.

From last year to this year, a total budget of 520 million KRW was invested to install 214 units across 154 locations, including 87 daycare centers and 67 senior facilities (senior centers, senior care facilities).

Furthermore, from 2020 to 2022, the district installed 66 fine dust reduction devices in 14 facilities such as daycare centers, senior centers, and hospitals within fine dust intensive management zones.

This year, the district was selected as a pilot institution for the Public Procurement Service's innovative product, the 'Integrated Indoor Air Quality Management Product.' With a budget support of 370 million KRW from the Public Procurement Service, air shower devices will be installed in 17 locations including daycare centers.

Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, stated, "With recent increases in fine dust concentrations, there are concerns about harm to children and seniors. We hope that the newly installed fine dust reduction devices will help provide a comfortable indoor environment and support health management."
