Applications Accepted with Recommendations from School Principals by the 15th of Next Month
Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jin Gyo-hoon) announced on the 28th that it will select 57 students as '2024 First Half (Foundation) Gangseo-gu Scholarship Foundation (Chairman Song Jin-su) Scholars' to discover and nurture outstanding local talents.
This is to support outstanding local students so that they can focus on their studies without worrying about tuition fees, enabling them to develop their abilities and grow as local talents.
The number of selected students is a total of 57, including 25 high school students and 32 university students, across four categories: ▲Community Unity (2 students) ▲Exemplary (46 students) ▲Special Talent (4 students) ▲Small Amount (5 students).
The Community Unity Scholarship selects 2 first-year students who entered a domestic 4-year university this year and had excellent academic performance in their third year of high school. This scholarship is provided for 4 years (up to 8 semesters), supporting up to 3.5 million KRW per semester within the tuition fee range. However, recipients must meet the support criteria each semester after being initially selected.
The Exemplary Scholarship targets students with excellent academic performance in the past year, selecting 46 students in total, 23 high school students and 23 university students.
The Special Talent Scholarship is for students who have achieved excellent results in nationwide or larger competitions in fields such as mathematics, science, sports, and cultural arts. A total of 4 students are selected, 2 high school students and 2 university students.
Both the Exemplary and Special Talent Scholarships provide 1 million KRW to high school students and up to 2 million KRW to university students.
The final Small Amount Scholarship targets university students who have received general repayment student loans handled by the Korea Student Aid Foundation but do not receive interest support. A one-time payment of 200,000 KRW is provided.
Applicants must have resided in Gangseo-gu for more than one year as of the announcement date, March 13. High school students must obtain a recommendation from their school principal, and university students must obtain a recommendation from the head of their residential district office (except for the Small Amount Scholarship).
However, students who receive full tuition or scholarships from the national government, local governments, other foundations, or schools, or who are enrolled in credit bank systems, Korea National Open University, or cyber (distance) universities located outside Gangseo-gu are excluded.
Applicants should submit the application form and related documents in person or by mail to the Gangseo-gu Scholarship Foundation Secretariat (615 Gonghang-daero, Gangseo-gu, 1st floor) by April 15.
